Sustainable Manufacturing Handmade in Ghana. All my Boo bamboos frames have a unique story to tell: each frame is manufactured with loving handicraft in Yonso, a small rural town in Mampong district of central Ghana. The unique frames are produced by a skilled team through our local partner, the Yonso Project—a nonprofit organization. Making a Local Difference. The Yonso Project is an aspiring social project dedicated to expanding educational and economic opportunities in rural Ghana; female vendors are provided with microloans to help them start or grow their own businesses, and a scholarship program was created to enable poor and disadvantaged children to have an access to education. Building my Boo bamboo frames also gives young people an opportunity to work. So far, 15 employees have already been trained and hired on full-time at the Yonso Project‘s bamboos bike workshop. Proceeds from the workshop go towards financing all other projects such as microlending. Fair Working Conditions. For us, it is essential that the local working conditions are decent. This is why we‘ve intentionally chosen to collaborate with a social project that shares the same beliefs. Education is Key. We are convinced that education is the key to a happy future which is why we have decided to finance one educational scholarship for each bike sold. As a customer, you have the option to extend the scholarship after one year or to continue sponsoring the same child. -4-

The Fascinating World of Bamboo Transportation of the Future. The bicycle is the future means of transportation—an environmental alternative to other modes of transportation that does not emit CO2. However, the majority of bicycles are produced from nonrenewable resources like aluminum, steel or carbon resulting in CO2 emissions. To counteract this, we use a renewable resource: bamboo. Amazing Growth Rate. Bamboo matures quickly and is the fastest growing plant in the world; in some climates, it can grow up to 50 cm a day! In Ghana, Bamboo is abundant and is where the bestlooking tubes are selected and cut for our frames. A Perfectly Suitable Building Material. Bamboo is not only a sustainable natural resource but is also perfectly suitable as a building material for bike frames. Every bamboo tube consists of solid segments called “nodes” that make the tube incredibly durable. The internodes—hallow areas between the nodes—are approximately 30 cm in length. Bamboo has been used as a construction material in Asia and Africa for years and is naturally shock absorbing which can offer a comfortable, smooth ride. Bamboo from Ghana. Why do we use bamboo from Ghana? Because it has a very thick outer wall giving it a high strength-toweight ratio which is very useful for structures like the my Boo frames. Furthermore, the bamboo we source from Ghana consists of an extremely hard surface making it scratch-resistant. -6-

Developed in Germany Innovative Assembly. Bamboo bicycles have been around since the nineteenth century; back then they were less complex but still functioned well. However, they never achieved a breakthrough because utilizing bamboo tubes presented challenges due to their shape, variability of diameters and wall thicknesses. Together with engineers and metalworkers in Germany, we set out to develop a system to overcome these challenges—a clamping device (jig) that supports the metal parts and bamboo tubes to efficiently assemble the frame. Social Responsibility. Five small aluminum components are assembled onto a bamboo frame: a head tube, seat tube shim, a bottom bracket and two dropouts. The parts are produced by a German independent foundation called Stiftung und Mensch that provides work opportunities for people with disabilities. The foundation meets our quality expectations and is a compatible partner that suits our company philosophy. Tested to Precise Standards. Our my Boo frames comply with the European standard EN 14764 based on the measurements of three different tests—a saddle load fatigue test, a peddling load fatigue test, and an impact test. The testing systems simulate the lifetime of a bicycle which is about 20 years. Our frames also passed the EN-Test for E-Bikes! -8-

Enduring Ride Comfort High-quality leather grips and saddle made by Brooks England provide terrific ride comfort. Furthermore, the leather saddle adjusts to your riding position. Excellent Stiffness The bamboo tubes are joined using a wrapping method with hemp fibers and epoxy resin; the latter is also used in boat building because it becomes extremely hard and stiff thus offering ideal transfer of power from the bicycle frame to the road. A Superb Chassis The Shimano Alfine 8-speed internal hub gear is low-maintenance and delivers smooth and quiet shifting. Additionally, the Shimano Deore hydraulic dis brakes dispense incredible breaking power. Durability Bamboo is extremely durable. The thick outer wall on Ghanaian bamboo provides fantastic stability for our frames that meet the European standard EN 14764.
