than a day because he was right without even realizing it he had put forth a personal challenge to bonnie she understood the importance of not just explaining what she couldn t do but to find a new way of dealing with each person s issue to turn it to a win-win her viewpoint in life changed to what can you do from that day bonnie felt that she could do something to assist him and did she adopted that phrase as her personal mantra and began finding ways to do what she could in various situations contributing where she could instead of standing on the sidelines meet bonnie hardy leslie burns -reporter bonnie has been the store manager for blockbuster in monroe ga since opening day 10 years ago pictured here with son ethan juggles the responsibilities of the store and that of motherhood and does them both well ethan s t-ball and soccer practices keep her and fiance rex on the go thankfully though bonnie is as observant and dedicated to the customers who frequent her store this is how she came to know the burns family and more importantly to become friends with the late ted burns she said he stood out from many of the others because he took the time to speak to everyone it was not a mechanical interaction but a genuine greeting and concern for those around him when i interviewed this lovely woman i never thought i would get such a meaningful answer as to why she does what she does for the acs she attributes her participation to the first meeting with ted which was just after he had relocated to georgia and wanted to transfer his special movie pass from state to state the program that he was using in pennsylvania had been discontinued and was no longer available in georgia and bonnie had the challenge of explaining to him why his benefits had been reduced she explained that blockbuster could no longer accommodate him with that program and he was very unhappy he asked her well if you can t do that then what can you do that phrase rung in her ears for more just after ted s passing it was bonnie who contacted the family to advise that she and several members of blockbuster wanted to start team burns as a team to walk in the annual relay for life event after that ,the rest is history and bonnie who is also the treasurer of team burns has remained committed as a testament to what a great mother she is she also brings little ethan to meetings whenever she can which teaches him an appreciation for civic responsibility at an early age i am sad to report that in recent weeks cancer has also touched bonnie s family with the passing of her beloved uncle sammy sam stone age 46 of plant city passed away wednesday july 29 2009 ivan samuel stone was born december 15 1962 in madison ga to howard and willie mae stone he enjoyed fishing farming and antique cars sam was a loving husband father son and brother he will be greatly missed look for the team member spotlight each quarter to find out who are the faces of the team and a little about each of us in the next issue look forward to meeting tajshmon brooks ashley andrews and new member frank haislah.
