PREFACE ... now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. —Heb 12:26-27 T ODAY A REFORMATION is sweeping the globe. Jesus is reforming His church back to the book of Acts. ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t have denominations. They were a movement, a family of believers. .. you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God... (Ephesians 2:19) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God ... (Romans 8:14-16) ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t focus on church buildings. They met in houses. Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not

4 ! PREFACE only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ. (Romans 16:3-5) Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, a brother. (Romans 16:23) The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. (1 Corinthians 16:19) Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas and the church that is in his house. (Colossians 4:15) Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house ... (Philemon 1-2) ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples, when they met, didn’t follow minutely planned programs. They allowed the Holy Spirit to lead them. How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. (1 Corinthians 14:26) ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t have religious professionals. They didn’t carry any titles, such as Pastor or Apostle. Paul, for example, wouldn’t have introduced himself as ‘The Apostle Paul.’ He would have said, “I’m brother Paul.” In his letters, he always wrote, “Paul, an apostle ...” or “Paul, called to be an apostle.”

PREFACE 5 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle ... (Romans 1:1) Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God ... (1 Corinthians 1:1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God ... (2 Corinthians 1:1, Ephesians 1:1) Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father ...) (Galatians 1:1) etc And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation —as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him has written to you ... (2 Peter 3:15) ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t argue about whether or not the supernatural had vanished. They all believed in the supernatural, and it was normal for them to display it. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; They will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God." And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. ... (Mark 16:15-20)

6 ! PREFACE ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t argue about whether or not believers should be baptized by sprinkling or immersion. They didn’t argue about whether or not you can be baptized as a child. They were all baptized by full immersion on their own faith. They all got baptized after they had heard and believed the good news about their codeath, co-burial and co-resurrection with Jesus. Then those who gladly received [Peter’s] word were baptized ... (Acts 2:41) ... When they believed Phillip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. (Acts 8:12) Then Phillip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Phillip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. (Acts 8:35-38) Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized. (Acts 18:8) Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas." And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed

PREFACE 7 their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. (Acts 16:29-34) ! ■! In Acts, the early disciples didn’t argue about whether or not everybody who believes in Christ automatically has the Holy Spirit. They didn’t argue about whether or not everybody speaks in tongues. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they all spoke in tongues. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; ... (Mark 16:15-17) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 1:4-5) While Peter was still speaking ... , the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. ... (Acts 10:44-48) Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind? (1 Corinthians 14:23) I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all ... (1 Corinthians 14:18)

8 ! PREFACE ! ■! And the list goes on. ! With this book we would like to make a contribution to that reformation back to Acts. We hope that it will help believers to come back to the simplicity of the gospel and the truth about receiving the Holy Spirit. ! The Holy Spirit is a gift that is for all believers. Just like in Acts, all believers can receive the Holy Spirit today. And, just like in Acts, when believers receive the Holy Spirit, there will be an accompanying sign (speaking in tongues). ! Of course, receiving the Holy Spirit is just the beginning. And speaking in tongues is not all. There is much more. But it all begins with receiving the Holy Spirit. Before believers can learn to be led by the Holy Spirit, they first need to have received the Holy Spirit! ! After people have received the Holy Spirit, they will often want to (and may have to) leave behind the old structures and the old systems they have grown accustomed to. Religious establishments don’t like Spirit-directed activities. Religion likes to hold onto the status quo, the protocol, the known, the predictable, the self-effort and selfrighteousness. But there is no power in that. So when people receive the Holy Spirit and discover the authentic Spiritfilled life and the freedom that Jesus came to give us, it will also cause them to come out of the box. !

11 WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT FIND REAL HELP ! Treasure Found — for a while now, I've been looking for a simple, yet comprehensive book that can introduce the New Covenant (our identity, authority and relationship with Abba, Father) to the unbeliever — essentially to relate to the Thai mentality or folks who have no concept of God. Well, I FOUND IT!!!! Thank you Jesus! ! THIS is the book, 'FIND Real Help' by Albert & Peninnah Oberdorfer. ... [T]he book is presented with illustrations, examples, making it REALLY EASY for anybody — who hasn't got any background at all in God—to understand. It takes the reader step by step from the difference between self/help & religion to understanding God's original plan, Adam handing over authority, why Jesus, the finished work, the Holy Spirit, Law vs Grace—about 2[37] pages, in a paperback book. I will find out if this is already in Thai. It's a Must-get, Must-read, Must-give-away ... !! Debbie Kris Chia-Ekner ‘Find Real Help’ is amazing by its simplicity and the pictures and illustrations explaining the text. It’s a wonderful introduction to the Father's love and shows Jesus' grace to new believers in such a clear way! I like the fact that it makes difficult things simple to understand! I have been passing your book around and it helps the Vietnamese new believers a lot. Simplicity and straight to the point! Bravo! Jean-Marc Mignot

12 ! I have been greatly blessed through reading your ‘Find Real Help’ book that was passed on to me by a dear friend … I am living down in the South of Thailand and delight to share the gospel with people I meet. Thank you for taking time to write your refreshing book that reveals the radical grace of the gospel. In fact I can think of at least 100 people, including many friends, who need to read it. Peter J Moulding We received your book yesterday—thank you—and I have been looking through it today. I am very impressed and I feel it will be a blessing to a great deal of people—me included. " It is interesting to see how our attitudes and understandings mature over the years as the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth.
